Where children lose marks
The Department of Examinations reviewed the 2019 exam. On Paper II, children averaged about 55% in first language, 52% in maths and 56% in environment, but only 27% in English and 20% in the second language. The essay averaged 7%. Scholarship Hero has separate practice for both.

What is inside
Paper I practice: 40 three-choice questions in 45 minutes: patterns, shapes, mirror images, number sequences, codes and reasoning.
Paper II practice: first language, English, second language, maths and environment in 75 minutes, ending with an essay.
Today’s 10: a short daily set that starts with your child’s weakest topic, and keeps a streak going.
Topic practice: six topics with a score for each, and the right answer shown after every mistake.
Essay practice: a checklist based on the mistakes listed in the official report, to mark together with your child.
Sinhala or Tamil medium
Choose the medium with one tap. Questions and instructions appear in that language, with Tamil practice for Sinhala medium children and Sinhala practice for Tamil medium children.
What it is not
Scholarship Hero is not official and is not connected to the Department of Examinations. All the questions are newly written by us, not copied from past papers. The practice marks show how your child did on our questions; they do not predict the exam result, and we cannot promise marks. It works best alongside your school and teacher.

The plan

Questions parents ask
Will this raise my child’s scholarship marks?
We cannot promise marks, and nobody honestly can. It gives regular practice in the format of the papers and shows which topics need work.
Is English in the Grade 5 scholarship exam?
Yes. The Department of Examinations’ review of the 2019 exam lists English as a part of Paper II, along with first language, second language, maths and environment. Please check this year’s format with your school.
Are these real past papers?
No. Every question is newly written or generated by us in a similar format. We do not copy past papers.
Which grades is it for?
Mainly Grade 5, and Grades 3 and 4 can start early. Some questions will feel hard in Grade 3, and that is normal.
