How to use English Genius
English Genius keeps its screens simple: games, lessons and cards, without long instructions. This page explains how each part works. Parents can read it together with their child.
Getting started
- 1. Log inUse the username and password on your student ID card, or scan its QR code.
- 2. Choose your languageSinhala, Tamil or English only. Word meanings and help appear in your language. Change it any time in Settings.
- 3. Make your heroPick a hero and dress them up. Your hero talks with you and walks around the app.
- 4. Pick your worldChoose a background. Win gems in games to unlock more.
Games
- Pick a game, then a lessonEvery game asks questions from the lesson you choose, so you practise exactly what you learned.
- StarsEach game gives up to 3 stars for each lesson. Your best result is kept.
- Big gamesBlock World, Splat Royale and Turbo Track are big 3D games. Some open when your teacher switches them on, or when you earn them.
- Store or arcadeThe Games screen opens like a game store. Use the view switch at the top to see the games as arcade machines instead.
School and lessons
- Your grade pathChoose your grade and do the lessons in order. Each lesson has talking slides and quick checks.
- Mock examsAt the end of every grade there is a mock exam with new questions each time. Pass it to win a certificate.
- NotesMany lessons have a chalkboard summary and notes to copy into your exercise book.
Word cards and the dictionary
- Word cardsTap a card to hear the word, its meaning and an example sentence. Swipe around the honeycomb to find more words.
- Magic packsStars from games open magic packs with new cards for your collection.
- DictionarySearch a word in English, Sinhala or Tamil to see the meaning and hear how to say it.
Exam Hall
- Practice papersTimed papers for Grades 3–9, the O/L and the A/L. Answers save by themselves. Press Submit when you finish.
- MarksObjective tests are marked for you. Writing tasks come with a marking guide, so a teacher or parent can mark them.
Gems and rewards
- How to win gemsFinish lessons, win stars in games and do the daily challenge.
- What gems buyClothes and colours for your hero, new worlds and some big games.
Settings
- Language and word helpChoose Sinhala or Tamil, and how word meanings appear.
- VoicesPick the reading voice and the hero voice, or switch them off.
- Show me aroundReplays the short tour of the app at any time.
Questions parents ask
Can my child use it alone?
Yes. Every word in the lessons is read aloud, and the tour shows where everything is. Young children may like a parent with them for the first few lessons.
